This easy banana snowmen recipe is a great holiday dessert to get your kids involved in! The snowmen consist of sliced bananas that are dipped in white chocolate, then topped with mini chocolate chips, fresh raspberries and dried mango.
I made these banana snowmen with my kids earlier this year and they were such a hit that I had to add them to the blog!
My kids not only loved eating them, but helping me make them as well.
These banana snowmen are made with just 5 ingredients; all gluten free, dairy free, vegan and paleo (depending on the chocolate you use). They take less than 30 minutes to throw together and are a great family activity.
Enjoy them as a healthy dessert or decadent afternoon snack. They're stored in the freezer, so you can make them ahead of time for a party or gathering too!
Ingredients
Like I mentioned, just 5 ingredients are needed to make these healthy frozen snowmen:
- Bananas - Three banana slices for each snowman. Green, yellow or yellow with many brown spots will work. Just make sure the bananas aren't mushy.
- White chocolate - For dipping the bananas. I used Pascha white chocolate chips, which are gluten free and dairy free. If you want a paleo white chocolate, I suggest Evolved white chocolate bars.
- Fresh raspberries - For the snowmen hats.
- Miniature chocolate chips - For the eyes, and buttons. I used Pascha 100% dark chocolate mini chips.
- Dried mango - For the carrot nose.
You'll also need skewers (or popsicle sticks) and a parchment-lined baking sheet to assemble them.
How to Make Banana Snowmen
First, gather your ingredients. Use kitchen scissors or a sharp knife to cut the dried mango into small triangles for the noses. You'll also need skewers or popsicle sticks and a parchment lined baking sheet for assembling the snowmen.
Peel the bananas and slice them ½ inch thick, or as thick as needed to easily push through the skewers.
Place three banana slices on each skewer to make your snowmen.
Melt the white chocolate. You can either melt it in the microwave at 20-30 second intervals, or over the stovetop on low heat.
Dip the snowmen in the white chocolate, covering them entirely. I found this easiest to do by pouring the white chocolate into a tall, slender cup and then dipping the snowmen one at a time. Another option is to spoon the white chocolate onto the snowmen, coating each side.
Place the dipped snowmen on the lined baking sheet, then add the toppings. Place a raspberry on top of each snowman head, use 2 chocolate chips for the eyes and 2-3 for the buttons.
Grab a dried mango triangle and place it on the snowman's face for the carrot nose.
Pop the snowmen in the freezer to fully set the white chocolate. They should be ready in about 10 minutes.
Enjoy them immediately, or make ahead of time and store in the freezer until you're ready to serve them.
Storage
These snowmen are best kept in the freezer. You can keep them on the lined baking sheet for a few days if you're just making them ahead of time. For longer storage, place them in a large ziplock baggie.
The bananas do get pretty solid after freezing, but we enjoyed eating them this way. You can always let them thaw a few minutes before eating.
Other Snowman Topping Ideas
- use carrot slices, orange sprinkles or sliced dried pineapple for the noses
- make the hats out of sliced strawberries or mini peanut butter cups
- use raisins, cacao nibs or sunflower seeds for the eyes/buttons
- make the buttons out of fresh blueberries
