Paleo energy balls are one of my go-to homemade snack recipes. They are easy to make, contain minimal ingredients and the kids love them.

This particular hemp seed snack recipe is a household favorite because they are:

  • only 3 ingredients - all Whole30 approved
  • Paleo & Vegan
  • nut free
  • no bake
  • tasty

I made these healthy coconut balls for Thanksgiving (snacks before the big meal were a must for us) and they were eaten in no time. The whole family loved them! My kids even had fun helping me make them - so get your kids involved!

Ingredients in Coconut Hemp Energy Balls

Here's what you need to make these Paleo coconut hemp balls:

  • shredded coconut
  • hemp hearts (shelled hemp seeds)
  • Medjool dates
  • salt (optional)

The great thing about making energy balls like this is that the measurements do not need to be exact - eyeballing each ingredient works just fine.

As far as substitutes go, you can swap coconut flakes for the shredded coconut. Because shredded coconut is much finer than flakes, you'll want to use 1 cup of flaked coconut.

Any date variety (like Deglet Noor) will work in place of the Medjool dates. Just measure by weight for best results, as Medjool dates tend to be much larger than other types. If you cannot eat dates, other dried fruit should work as a replacement. For instance, dried figs or raisins.

How to Make Coconut Hemp Energy Balls

These hemp protein energy balls are made in a food processor, rolled and ready to eat!

All you need is a high powered food processor and the necessary ingredients. Simply, combine all ingredients in the food processor and blend until the mixture starts to clump.

Next, roll the mixture into balls. Each ball is about one tablespoon in size, making 10-12 energy bites.

After rolling, the bites are ready to eat.

Storage

These vegan hemp seed energy balls can be stored in the fridge or freezer. Place them in a sealed container or baggie and keep them up to two weeks in the fridge, or two months in the freezer.
