Grain Free Almond Flour Pizza Crust (Paleo, Vegan)

    Published: Sep 25, 2020 · by Katie

This grain free almond flour pizza crust is simple, delicious and super easy to make.  It only requires 4 ingredients (plus seasonings), can be thrown together in minutes and holds up well.  This healthy pizza crust recipe is paleo, vegan, yeast free, egg free, dairy free and grain free.

Paleo pizza that has been cut and is ready to serve.

I've been testing various pizza crust recipes on my family for years.  But it wasn't until recently that I decided to get serious about creating a gluten free, dairy free pizza crust for the blog.

Honestly, I'm not the biggest pizza person.  I know, I know...it's basically a crime not to love pizza!  But I'm pretty sure my lack of pizza love is made up for ten fold by my husband.

Anyway, this grain free almond flour pizza crust definitely won me and my family over.  They all said it's the best paleo pizza crust!

Why You'll Love this Grain Free Pizza Crust

    • minimal ingredients - you only need 4 ingredients (yep, 4!!)
    • paleo friendly - made with simple, wholesome ingredients
    • yeast free - the dough doesn't require any yeast
    • sugar free - unsweetened but still tasty
    • easy to make - combine dough ingredients, roll, add toppings and bake

    Ingredients

Here's what you need to make this grain free pizza crust:

    • blanched almond flour - since this is an almond flour pizza crust
    • arrowroot starch - or swap for tapioca starch
    • baking soda - for the rise
    • dried oregano - optional seasoning
    • dried thyme - optional seasoning
    • garlic powder - optional seasoning
    • salt - optional for enhancing all the flavors
    • unsweetened yogurt - I used almond milk yogurt, but any yogurt will work

The four main ingredients are: almond flour, arrowroot starch, baking soda and yogurt.  These ingredients are a must, and all the rest are highly recommended for optimal taste/texture.

How to Make a Grain Free Almond Flour Pizza Crust

You'll need a large mixing bowl, parchment paper, baking sheet and your favorite pizza toppings to make this pizza. Here are the steps:

    1. First, preheat your oven to 375 degrees F.
    2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the dry ingredients.  This includes: almond flour, arrowroot starch, baking soda, spices and salt.  Whisk the dry ingredients until they are well mixed.
    3. Next, add in the yogurt.  Use a spatula to stir the dough until it is in large clumps.  Then, knead the dough with your hands.
    4. Form the dough into a ball and dust with more arrowroot.  Press the ball of dough onto a sheet of parchment paper.  Add another sheet of parchment paper on top of the dough and use a rolling pan to roll the dough into a large circle/oval.  The crust will be about ¼ inch thick.

    1. Once rolled out, add paleo pizza sauce and toppings.
    2. Transfer the pizza (on the parchment paper) to a baking sheet ( and bake at 375 degrees for 20 minutes.  Once done, the crust should be crisp on the bottom, but soft on top.  The crust cuts easily and holds together well - which is super important when you like to add lots of toppings 😉

    Storage

Store leftover pizza in an airtight container in the fridge, up to 5 days.

    Best Paleo Pizza Toppings

    • sauce: paleo pizza sauce or tomato paste, mustard, homemade pesto
    • veggies: onion, peppers, garlic, tomatoes, leek, cilantro, parsley, mushrooms, spinach
    • meats: cured meats like pepperoni, sausage, ground beef, chicken, bacon, ham
    • extras: olives, avocado, fresh herbs like basil or oregano, pineapple

I haven't tried the substitution but tigernut flour should work. They're interchangeable in most recipes.
